Where is Vale Healthcare?

Vale Healthcare currently has three sites: The Vale Hospital, the Cardiff Bay Clinic and the Vale Clinic, in Hensol - Vale of Glamorgan.

  • The Vale Hospital is a new 25-bedroom hospital, located within 3.4 acres of rural parkland, adjacent to Hensol Lake. The Vale Hospital is located in Hensol (in the Vale of Glamorgan), 5 minutes from Junction 34 of the M4.
  • The Cardiff Bay Clinic is where you will visit for any outpatient consultations, day-case surgical treatments and procedures, and any diagnostic imaging. The Cardiff Bay Clinic also houses one of Vale Healthcare's Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation sites
  • The Vale Clinic is Vale Healthcare's additional Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation site. This is located within the Vale Hotel Spa & Golf Resort. 

How do I book a consultation at Vale Healthcare?

You can make an appointment at Vale Healthcare in several ways:

  • Direct to The Vale Hospital or Cardiff Bay Clinic - contact our Bookings department on 029 2083 6714.
  • Direct to a Consultant - enquiries and referrals for outpatient appointments can be made directly via the consultants’ medical secretaries. The contact details for each medical secretary are detailed under the respective specialty web pages.
  • Online - use our make an enquiry page to contact Vale Healthcare's booking office and we will contact you to make an appointment
  • Through your GP - your GP can make a referral for you, direct to Vale Healthcare

Can I self-refer for an appointment at Vale Healthcare?

Vale Healthcare is open to all patients, both with medical insurance and those who self-fund.

If you have medical insurance / health insurance then you will require a GP referral, and preauthorisation for treatment from your medical insurer.

Patients who are self-funding can self-refer for most specialities. You will however require a GP or clinician referral for some diagnostic investigations such as MRI.

How soon can I book in for a consultation?

Most of our consultants hold daily or weekly clinics so you will usually be able to see a consultant fairly quickly.

Sometimes your appointment wait will depend on the consultant you wish to see. Some of our more senior consultants may have a waiting time for appointments however you will always be offered an alternative appointment with an another consultant.

How much will a consultation cost?

Consultation fees will vary dependent on the consultant you see, and the treatment that you receive.

Does Vale Healthcare offer any payment plans for self-funding patients?

We apologise, after 18 June our loans provider (First Medical Loans) will not be able to offer new personal medical loans. All loans approved by First Medical Loans by that date will be fulfilled. Please call First Medical Loans on 0845 618 5375 if you have any questions in relation to the status of your loan.

The terms and conditions of the existing and approved loans are unchanged therefore the future instalments will be collected in the same way, by direct debit.

When does the new Vale Hospital open?

The Vale Hospital is now open. This new private hospital has 25 en-suite bedrooms, two digital operating theatres, 6 consulting rooms, diagnostic imaging facilities, and is located in 3.4 acres of rural parkland in Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan.

The Vale Hospital is open to all patients, both those who have medical insurance and those who self-pay, and offers state of the art private medical care in South Wales.

Does The Vale Hospital and Cardiff Bay Clinic have parking facilities?

Yes. Parking is free of charge to all patients and visitors to The Vale Hospital and Cardiff Bay Clinic.

Does Vale Healthcare have overnight facilities?

Yes. The Vale Hospital has 25 en-suite bedrooms, for overnight stays.

Cardiff Bay Clinic is an out-patient facility so we do not have overnight accommodation here, although we do have a fully operational theatre, and if you are having a day-case operation with us then you will have you operation and leave on the same day.

How old do you have to be to be treated at Vale Healthcare's sites?

  • 3 years plus for Consultation
  • 3 years plus for Diagnostics
  • 16 years plus for Theatre
  • 12 years plus for Physiotherapy at Cardiff Bay Clinic, Under 12’s can be seen at the Vale Physiotherapy Clinic, in Hensol.

NB *The only exception to this is for the Baby Hip Clinic. Consultants treating in this clinic under 3’s are permitted and this includes hip ultrasound.
